Chris Blunstone
Director & Care Manager

Chris has six years' experience as Care Manager and Director of Helping Hands of Harrogate and has taken lead responsibility of our Care Company.

 

 

Previous to this role, Chris gained invaluable experience over nine years whilst working as a care team member in a multidisciplinary team at a local children’s hospice. 

He is committed to providing quality care and support for children, young people, young adults, their families and carers. Chris recognises the importance of caring for each child, young person or young adult as an individual providing personal, social, emotional and nursing care in a way that will enhance their life.  He has acquired knowledge, skills and expertise in a wide range of conditions including Battens Disease, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and other degenerative or life limiting conditions.  As well as working at the hospice, Chris also worked for the local authority with young people aged 13-18 who had challenging behaviour and emotional needs.  

Chris is very approachable, an excellent communicator with a natural gift and ability to recognise and respect individuals specific needs and is immensely proud of the quality service his staff give to the local community and he works alongside the team both in the office and the field to ensure standards are kept high.

Rebecca Blunstone
Director

Rebecca shares the same passion as her husband Chris for ensuring that the care and support delivered by Helping Hands of Harrogate is of a very high standard.  She has six years' experience as Director  and has overseen the on-going development of the company.  Customer service and administrative support is Rebecca's priority which is an essential component of delivery of high quality and reliable care. 

 

Prior to forming Helping Hands of Harrogate Ltd with Chris in 2010, Rebecca gained invaluable experience, skills and knowledge working to support the public and local businesses in various roles.  She is motivated by her own life experiences to ensure that the company offers families care and support that she would accept for her own family.

Rebecca is an enthusiastic, well organised professional who has a natural flair in communicating with people at all levels which has led to the success of the company.  Rebecca is methodical, passionate and fully focused on the success of the business and goes out of her way to ensure that clients, families, service providers and employees are happy with the care, procedures and training being delivered by Helping Hands of Harrogate Ltd.

 

 

 
 
 
Karen Glover
HR & Accounts Manager

As well as having distinctions in Business Administration and Customer Service, Karen also has qualifications in Accountancy, Payroll and Human Resources'.  Karen has previous experience working with a leading Accountancy Firm in Harrogate, Management & Compliance of an Independent Financial Services company as well as managing a 75 strong workforce and 3 Multiplex cinemas whilst venturing further afield in the Middle-East.

Prior to joining the team at Helping Hands of Harrogate Ltd, Karen has been involved in law enforcement working as a Detective Constable with West Yorkshire Police.  Karen has worked in the Safeguarding arena and has liaised closely with partnership agencies such as Social Care, Care Quality Commission, Nursing and Midwifery Council, The Health & Safety Executive and numerous other Authorities.  Karen's aptitude, knowledge and expertise ensures that Helping Hands of Harrogate Ltd remain compliant with our own governing body ensuring that the quality of service delivered to our Clients are maintained to the highest of standards whilst also supporting and maintaining a dynamic team of skilled Care Workers employed by the company.

Catherine Bursell
Care & Training Coordinator

 

Catherine is an organised, experienced professional, with an extremely caring nature. She qualified as a primary school teacher in 2000 with an honours degree in English Language and Literature and worked as a member of the senior management team and a school governor during her 10 years of teaching. 

Throughout this time, Catherine’s interest in supporting additional needs in school developed into a passion and she has built an extensive, specialist knowledge in the support of social, emotional, physical and behavioural development through her work as a Special Educational Needs and Inclusion Coordinator. 

Catherine cares deeply that everyone she works with reaches their potential within a caring, supportive environment. She is very proud to be part of such a skilled, professional team whose dedication is focused totally on each child, young person and young adult as an individual.   

 

 
 
 
 
 
 
Clare McNeill
Care & Training Coordinator

 

Clare came to the team after originally working as a nursery nurse with children with complex needs, and after undertaking a teaching qualification delivered training on additional needs, diagnosis and individual care plans.

She has most recently worked within Leeds social care’s child health and disability teams, education and the voluntary sector. She offered co-ordination of care packages, family support, signposting and benefit and funding support, overseeing daily needs, and multi-disciplinary co-ordination for families. She has run her own charity supporting families through the enjoying but sometimes challenging times of looking after their children with complex needs and makes strong and supportive professional relationships.

Clare is keen to ensure everyone she works with has a chance to maximise their opportunities and life experiences, and is very committed to positive outcomes and for families and their loved ones.

 

 

 

 

 

Victoria New
Care & Training Coordinator

Victoria joined the company in January 2012 as a Care Worker, working her way to then become Relief Care Worker and in April 2016 was appointed Care & Training Coordinator. 

 

Victoria holds an Early Years Foundation degree in childcare,  Level 2 in British Sign Language (BSL) and a NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care.  Victoria has previously worked in a children’s nursery as a keyworker and with older people in a nursing home as a carer and throughout her time with Helping Hands of Harrogate has gained extensive experience working with children and adults with a wide range of medical needs.

 

Victoria is caring and passionate about her role within the company, and is keen to share her enthusiasm and knowledge with families and staff.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Karon Powell
Clinical Nurse Lead

Karon joined the team in March 2015.  She is a knowledgeable, enthusiastic Registered Nurse with over 20 years “hands on experience” of working with children and young adults with complex health needs and their families. Karon has extensive experience of planning, implementing, delivering and evaluating high quality, evidence based community health care. 

Karon has developed and delivered training packages regarding relevant clinical skills to all involved with the clients care and have previously worked in a variety of settings including a children’s hospice, special needs nurse in schools and community nurses for Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Trust, Bradford City (PCT) NHS Trust and North Warks NHS Trust. 

Karon is passionate about helping clients achieve their goals and lead fulfilling lives, promoting their independence and choice and is committed to supporting both clients and their families.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  

 
Jo Martin
Business Development Manager

 

Jo joined the company in April 2013 having previously worked for North Yorkshire County Council as Manager of the Disabled Children’s Service in the Harrogate and Craven area.  In this role Jo was committed to overseeing the assessment and provision of high quality support services for disabled children and their families.

At Helping Hands of Harrogate Jo leads on business and service development, quality assurance, governance and regulatory compliance. This means ensuring policies and processes are in place to support the provision of high quality care. Jo prioritises listening and responding  to the views of clients, families, commissioners and the staff team on services provided by the Company. Such feedback informs the ongoing development of the Company.

Jo believes working with Helping Hands of Harrogate Ltd provides the opportunity to continuously improve service delivery for those in need of support, by embracing all feedback, current best practice guidance & research based evidence.

 

 

   

Charlotte Wilson
Admin Assistant

 

Charlotte joined the team in January 2016, following her recent return from traveling around Australia, Thailand in New Zealand.  Charlotte is a highly organised and methodical individual having several years’ of administration experience and works full time from the company’s office.

 

 

Charlotte provides excellent customers service along with administrative and clerical support to the management and care team and is responsible for the coordination and implementation of office procedures.  Charlotte is committed to providing professional support and contributing to the delivery on quality care through essential clerical support. 

 

 

 

 

 
 
Andy Hawkswell
First Aid Trainer

 

Andy Hawkswell has been a qualified first aid trainer & assessor since November 2006. He is also a qualified lifeguard trainer since December 2006. The first aid training courses he runs are certified by Nuco training company that is as a nationally recognised training provider by the Health & Safety Executive.

 

Andy has worked for the Harrogate Borough Council for 10 years delivering first aid training to the lifeguard teams and management teams within the leisure centres. He now works as a self-employed first aid trainer as well as a personal trainer, sports coach and lifeguard trainer.

 

He prides himself on delivering up to date training courses with enthusiasm and a high skill level that breaks the mould of the stereotypical boring and monotonous training courses of the past.  Some of the companies he’s trained include Harrogate Borough Council, Leeds United staff, Harrogate Cricket Club coaches, TABS Cricket Club and Parents and teachers of local schools.
